Love and Monsters
Love and Monsters Love and Monsters was another victim of the pandemic that was scheduled to hit theaters around this time, but the Paramount studio finally decided to release it on streaming platforms such as Amazon and Video on Demand.
Director Michael Matthews’ film features an entertaining mix of genres that includes horror comedy, post-apocalyptic adventure and the coming of age.
Although there is a certain influence of Zombieland, the story has its own personality and makes the show work thanks to the tremendous charisma of Dylan O’Brien. An underrated Hollywood actor who found in this project the possibility of demonstrating his versatility to perform in both comedy and dramatic situations.
Although the cast has the participation of Michael Rooker and Jessica Henwick (The Defenders, Luke Cage), the entire weight of the conflict falls on the shoulders of O’Brien, who has the responsibility of moving the show forward. Especially for its ability to generate empathy with this class of characters who do not present perfect action heroes, but ordinary types who end up trapped in extraordinary situations.
In the plot the destruction of an asteroid that was heading the Earth has fatal consequences for humanity. The radioactive chunks generated a mutation in insects that wipe out the majority of the world’s population by turning into giant predatory monsters.
After spending seven years in isolation inside a bunker, Joel (O’Brien) decides to surface and go on a suicide mission to meet his girlfriend who is hundreds of kilometers away in another shelter.
